Reece James is back on grass, which might be a significant boost for Chelsea ahead of their Carabao Cup final match against Liverpool.
Reece James, the England defender has been out since December with a hamstring injury and has made only nine appearances this season in what has been another injury-plagued campaign. James, though, looks to be getting close to playing again as Chelsea prepares for a final against Liverpool on February 25. In a Thursday Instagram post, the Blues full-back made a hint to that effect.
This season, Chelsea has experienced a bit of an injury crisis. Notable absences include Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, and England senior full-back Ben Chilwell, among other summer arrivals. However, considering the recurrent nature of the hamstring injury, James’ extended absence has raised concerns at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old missed a large chunk of the last campaign due to both hamstring and knee issues.
James’ return will hopefully not be a false dawn for Chelsea supporters and manager Mauricio Pochettino, as any more setbacks would tragically cast doubt on his long-term future in the game. Malo Gasto is a solid backup for the Blues at the club and has been one of the unsung heroes of Chelsea’s extravagant spending under Todd Boehly. That gives the Blues some comfort, at least.
