Kylian Mbappe and Endrick Felipe, who will both arrive later this summer, have already been finalized by Real Madrid. They might bolster Carlo Ancelotti’s team even more in the upcoming weeks, but their prospects of acquiring Alphonso Davies currently seem to have diminished.
The Athletic (via Diario AS) reports that Davies, whose current contract expires in 2025, accepted a contract offer from Bayern for between €14 and 16 million annually. The Canadian left-back has not renewed and still has a very uncertain future ahead of him, as they withdrew that offering shortly after.
Bayern has now made even another drastic shift, abandoning their “renew or sell” policy for the summer transfer season. They plan to hold Davies until the summer of 2024–2025 if they can’t come to an agreement on a new deal with him. The goal is to persuade him to stay for the 2024–2025 season.
Like the Mbappe story last year, Real Madrid is more than ready to wait until 2025 to secure Davies’ services. With Rafa Marin and Nacho Fernandez’s futures still up in the air, it also means they may invest more money on Leny Yoro, a much-needed boost to the central defense.
