Based on a recent report, Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have determined to invest a “considerable sum” in strengthening a new position in 2025. Though the team added five new players and made 13 roster changes during the summer transfer window, Ten Hag’s plans haven’t quite worked out as they have only won one of their first three league games.
Transfer rumours for Man Utd
Even though the transfer market has been closed for almost two weeks, there are still a lot of transfer rumours circulating, especially regarding United. It seems that they would like to add more strength to a few places even with the addition of five players throughout the summer.
One area that needs improvement is adding more depth to the central defence, where both Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire are in the last years of their contracts. Evans is expected to retire at the end of the current campaign, while it is uncertain if Maguire will be handed a new contract.
As a result, the Red Devils are searching for possible alternatives, and Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly one of them. In 2025, United is reportedly eager to get Tah on a free transfer, since the defender is nearing the conclusion of his deal with the Bundesliga winners.
The 28-year-old will become a free agent in the summer of 2019 because he has no intention of staying past this season. Although the Red Devils are eager to sign the centre-back, Liverpool and Chelsea, two Premier League opponents, will also be a rival.
Man United is considering a potential successor for Andre Onana.
A story from Spain that Manchester World reported claims that Manchester United is “very interested” in acquiring Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon. The 27-year-old, who was instrumental in his nation’s victory, recently returned from a fantastic European tournament with Spain.
These reports claim that United is among the teams interested in signing the custodian, whose performances are reported to have impressed English teams. The report continues by saying that the Premier League team is prepared to spend a “considerable sum” to get the Spaniard, who stops three of every four penalty kicks he faces and has a penalty-saving % in the 97th percentile (FBRef).
According to this story, Simon is the first choice at Bilbao and is reportedly paid €82,308 per week, or around £69,000. As such, United would have a difficult time persuading the player to go from Spain to Manchester.
The goalkeeper’s contract with Bilbao expires in the summer of 2029, however, there is a good chance he will earn a “big money” transfer to another team the following season.
