Jadon Sancho immediately impacted his packed debut, assisting Chelsea’s opening goal against West Ham United just four minutes after their match at the London Stadium.
To release the striker down the left flank, Sancho, 24, quickly played a one-two with Nicolas Jackson inside his half. The pass allowed Sancho to temporarily average an assist per 25 minutes while wearing a Chelsea shirt, even though the Senegal international did most of the work.
His first came last Saturday when he made his debut against Bournemouth, coming off the bench at halftime to assist fellow substitute Christopher Nkunku in scoring a late winner. Sancho’s influence was slightly more significant at that time.
He squared up Julian Araujo after receiving the ball on the left, then sent a cutting pass into Nkunku’s feet inside the penalty box. That is currently the same amount of assists that Sancho collected for Borussia Dortmund in 24 games played in all competitions last season.
Sancho leads all Manchester United players in Premier League assists thus far this season. This season, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, and Noussair Mazraoui have all tallied one assist apiece. However, Chelsea has now played one more game than United before their meeting against Bournemouth on Saturday night.
Only six goals have been assisted by the winger in his whole United career, which ends this summer when Chelsea is required to pay between £20 and £25 million to acquire him. Before joining Manchester United, he assisted 58 goals in four seasons at Dortmund, demonstrating his inventiveness.
Sancho scored 19 goals in each of the final two campaigns, and 16 goals in all competitions the year before. If the Blues’ current success continues, he is currently on track to reach those heights.
In a post-match interview following his debut, Sancho expressed his gratitude for getting back on the pitch and added, “It’s amazing to make my debut for Chelsea.” He went on to win the Man of the Match award. He additionally stated: “I’ve been working hard for this moment, and I’m just happy that I got my chance.”
