Firmino, who joined Liverpool in 2015, is currently in his ninth season with the club and has been a key component of all of the Reds’ recent success.
Firmino himself has stated that he would like to prolong his stay at the club, and Jurgen Klopp has made it obvious that he would like to have Firmino at the club beyond this summer.
In a recent update on his client’s contract negotiations, Firmino’s agent Roger Wittmann stated that “we will probably” be aware of the result at some point this month.
Roberto and Liverpool have a history together, he told Sky Germany.
Roberto feels cozy. We are currently engaged in a wonderful interchange, and by the end of February, we will probably know the general direction of the trip.
To come to an understanding with Liverpool, though, Roberto must also be heard. On the correct path, we are. With Liverpool, we are having excellent discussions. An excellent club, indeed.
Despite ties to clubs in the Middle East and, most recently, Inter Milan, Wittmann’s words would again suggest that a new contract for Firmino is still very much in the works.
With nine goals scored so far in 2022–23, Firmino, who is now 31 and may be past his prime, has nonetheless made a significant impact for Liverpool this season.
Prior to the upcoming season, it is anticipated that the Reds would make numerous changes to their playing roster. It has been emphasized that the club needs to be refreshed, especially in the midfield.
However, despite the addition of a number of attackers over the past year, Klopp is still eager to keep Firmino on board, recently stating that Cody Gakpo’s entry will not have an effect on his future.
The forward, who is now out of action due to a muscle injury, along with Virgil van Dijk and Diogo Jota, is anticipated to resume training in mid-February, according to Klopp’s suggestion last week.
