Mason Greenwood’s potential comeback is claimed to be dividing Manchester United’s first-team players, and the club’s women’s team is thought to be quite concerned.
There have been rumors that the first-team players of Manchester United are divided over Mason Greenwood’s potential return to the team.
According to a story in The Times, United’s players have various opinions about Greenwood’s situation. Some are rumored to be worried about the striker rejoining the team, while others are reported to be ambivalent about it now that the player’s charges have been dismissed.
Members of United’s women’s team reportedly worry a lot about Greenwood’s potential return to the club’s training grounds as well. Similar worries are claimed to be held by other female staff members, and in such a situation, business partners would choose to cut ties with the club.
The Crown Prosecution Service dismissed all criminal allegations against Greenwood earlier this month. These counts included attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. The removal of crucial witnesses and newly discovered evidence, according to the CPS, were the reasons why the charges were dismissed.
After the player’s arrest last year, such notification was made. The forward, who is 21 years old, said in a statement following the decision to withdraw the charges: “Now that this issue is resolved, I feel better. For their support, I want to express my gratitude to my family, friends, and loved ones.”
After Greenwood was suspended by United following the initial revelation of the allegations, concerns arose over his continued participation in the game. The Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to dismiss all charges against Mason Greenwood was noted by Manchester United in a statement that was released by the team.
Before deciding what to do next, the club will now undergo its own procedure. As soon as that procedure is finished, we won’t comment more.
Greenwood is still on the club’s suspension list, and until the organization has done its own investigation, he won’t be allowed to return to Carrington for training or play in any games.
“I can’t contribute nothing, I refer to the statement of the club,” United manager Erik ten Hag said when asked about the player during Friday’s press conference. There is no timeline or indication of what kind of conclusion United’s investigation would reach.
Ten Hag allegedly had his first conversation with Greenwood last week, during which the player was reportedly informed that the club, not the management group, would be making any decisions on his future.
Greenwood’s Old Trafford contract runs through the summer of 2025. After making his senior debut for United in the Champions League in March 2019, he has scored 35 goals in 129 games for the club. He also earned one England cap in 2020.
