Following Sunday’s 1-0 loss to West Ham, Bruno Fernandes alleged that he and his Manchester United teammates lacked sufficient finesse in front of goal.
At the London Stadium, United attempted 19 attempts on goal, but only four of those were successful.
As a result, Erik ten Hag’s team failed to score for the second straight game and has only managed three goals in their last six games across all competitions.
The loss puts further pressure on Ten Hag’s team as they try to earn Champions League football for next season. United are still in fourth place in the competition, one point clear of Liverpool with a game remaining.
Fernandes has also stated that the club needs to improve in front of goal and start sending the ball back into the net with four league games remaining before the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Fernandes on Man United’s loss
After the team’s defeat at the London Stadium, United’s vice-captain said to reporters (per Metro): “We are not capable of scoring goals, we generate so many chances but not with enough ruthlessness.
“We gave up an unfortunate goal and dropped the match. We have possibly had one of our poorest scoring seasons ever. We have players who can score goals, but we are not taking a chance.
Marcus Rashford, who has scored 16 goals in the Premier League this season, is United’s leading scorer.
The next highest scorer for the team, Fernandes, may be found much farther down the list after that, with six goals.
Anthony Martial and Antony each have four goals, while Jadon Sancho has five.
Ten Hag has apparently designated it as a top priority for renovation this summer. According to The Telegraph, United has started the signing process for Harry Kane of Tottenham.
This season, England’s all-time leading scorer has scored 26 goals, matching the total of Rashford and Fernandes’ goals.
