After being crunched by Moises Caicedo in the first minutes of Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Brighton for the Gunners, the winger hobbled off the pitch.
Martinelli won’t play in the Gunners’ upcoming matches against Nottingham Forest and Wolves, according to The Athletic.
He is believed to have suffered ankle ligament damage, but he should be ready for preseason.
Fears that it would be a long-term issue were increased when the Brazilian winger was seen wearing a protective boot right after the game.
He’s wearing a boot, Mikel Arteta stated. “Waking up is a real pain. He was unable to carry on playing. He needs to be scanned.
Gary O’Driscoll, the club’s head of medical services, gave fans reason for optimism after the game when he was captured on camera speaking to a supporter.
O’Driscoll responded simply, “Sore,” when asked how Martinelli was doing.
He said, “Terrible foul, awful, disgraceful foul, he’s a touch bruised, but he should be OK,” in reference to the challenge.
When questioned about whether he will take part in either of the Gunners’ next two games, he responded, “Yeah, I think he’ll definitely be back before the conclusion of the season.”
The season for Martinelli was excellent, but it now seems that won’t be the case.
46 games played in all competitions have resulted in 15 goals and 6 assists for him.
