According to Jamie O’Hara, a presenter for talkSPORT and a former Premier League midfielder, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the best one-on-one defender in the world of football.
The Manchester United player, who was earlier in the season pushed to the squad’s fringes, is undoubtedly in the best shape of his life right now and has established himself as the team’s starting right-back.
In an interview with Grosvenor Sport, O’Hara complimented United manager Erik ten Hag for helping Wan-Bissaka grow and claimed that he now values the former Crystal Palace player higher than Kyle Walker of Manchester City.
The former Tottenham great praised Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his performance for Man United this season. “He has developed into the best one-on-one defender in the world; Kyle Walker is good but only depends on pace. There is no one better than him.
“Wan-Bissaka’s toilets were full last year. It seemed like the man has lost his footballing skills. He has improved as a player this year as a result of the good coaching he received from Erik ten Hag. In that one-on-one position, as a defender, he stands them up and prevents anyone from getting past him. He has come a long way.
The 25-year-old, who arrived from Palace in 2019 for over £50 million, becoming the sixth-most expensive defender in the world at the time, has had a mixed record at Old Trafford thus far.
Wan-Bissaka has consistently underperformed in possession despite the fact that United seems to have a lot of it in most games. He has always looked strong in the tackle.
He played second fiddle to Diogo Dalot for the majority of the first half of the current campaign, but he was able to take back his starting position after a string of strong outings since the World Cup break and is now one of the first names on the United team sheet.
In light of Gareth Southgate’s preference for players like Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, there is even speculation of him receiving his England debut, demonstrating just how far he has come over the previous few months.
