Bernardo Silva has acknowledged that he was unhappy with how he played against Real Madrid in the first leg, and it made him determined to improve in the return.
Wednesday’s incredible 4-0 victory over Real Madrid by Manchester City guaranteed them a spot in the Champions League championship game. After the first meeting at the Bernabeu, which the Blues were fortunate to escape from with a 1-1 draw, the tie was in a delicate state.
But back at home, Pep Guardiola’s team utterly dominated from the opening minute to win 4-0. They completely destroyed the defending champions. With a powerful shot and a clever header, Bernardo scored the first two goals to all but seal the victory.
The Blues will now face Inter in Istanbul on June 10 after the Italian giants overcame their city rivals AC Milan on Tuesday. Second-half goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez finished off a magnificent performance. Bernardo has spoken openly about his own disappointment following the first leg and his happiness now that the tie has been won.
“I didn’t perform as well as I would have liked in the first game in Madrid, and I wanted to try and make up for that because I didn’t feel very good at all after the first game,” he said to BT Sport. “Today I needed to perform better for my colleagues and the audience, and I attempted to achieve that. I’m very glad I was able to assist them today.
“For us, this is a lovely night. Although we knew it would be difficult, it was amazing to defeat this Madrid club 4-0 at home. It feels great to be back in the final, and maybe we can take the victory this time.
“We know that our people are always very strong; they were outstanding today and helped us build the momentum we needed to pursue Madrid. Even as the second half began and we were up 2-0, they continued to push and had a chance to score. However, we were simultaneously organized, tenacious, and resilient. I’m over the moon with this performance.
