After receiving the Golden Glove award for the Premier League, David de Gea stated that he is proud of his accomplishments for Manchester United this season.
De Gea won the Golden Glove award despite having a challenging few weeks due to errors against Sevilla and West Ham, which led to increased examination of his position as the No. 1 custodian.
The prize is given to the custodian who has kept the most clean sheets in a Premier League season, and De Gea won it after keeping his 17th clean sheet of the year in Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth.
Allison of Liverpool had 14 clean sheets, while Nick Pope of Newcastle has 13, therefore De Gea easily earned the accolade.
The 32-year-old discussed his Golden Glove triumph and his season in a post-Bournemouth victory interview with MUTV.
When asked what the honour meant, De Gea responded, “It means myself and the squad did really well. “We have been pretty consistent throughout the season, especially on the defensive side, and I thought we performed really well.
We are closer to winning games when you keep clean sheets, and tonight we keep another one, a significant one and a massive three points. I’ve helped the squad as much as I can.
“It’s great for us because we are getting closer to finishing in the top four. It’s been a terrific season for me, with some excellent clubs in the league and excellent goalkeepers. I make every effort to support the team.
To be completely honest, winning another golden glove is fantastic. I’ll display it appropriately with my previous honours.
Next month, De Gea’s contract expires, although a new one is anticipated to be signed soon.
