Under the leadership of Erik ten Hag, Manchester United has enjoyed a fantastic Premier League campaign and has qualified for the Champions League once again. But the Dutchman has already said that if the Red Devils want to win a championship for the first time since 2013, standards need to rise. So Express Sport now examines how the 53-year-old’s team might appear at the start of the 2023/2024 season with four new additions.
Goalkeeper: De Gea
David De Gea is not yet bound to a new contract by United, thus the seasoned custodian has the legal right to leave for nothing this summer.
The Spain international is still expected to remain and extend his spell with the club, though.
Last season, De Gea made some costly mistakes for the team, with slip-ups against Brentford and West Ham standing out in particular.
He remains one of the top goalkeepers in the world of football, as evidenced by his Golden Glove trophy.
De Gea ought to take over as Ten Hag’s starting custodian for the upcoming campaign, though it will be intriguing to watch what happens with Dean Henderson.
Defence: Shaw, Martinez, Kim, Frimpong, and Kim
Jeremie Frimpong, who excelled for Bayer Leverkusen as they finished sixth in the Bundesliga standings, is a player that United is really interested in.
The future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka is uncertain, therefore he might show up in the summer.
At centre defence for United this year, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have developed a strong working relationship.
They do, however, admire Kim Min-jae, and Italian reports claim that a deal to acquire the South Korean international is imminent.
If acquired, Luke Shaw would continue to play left back alongside Martinez.
Mount, Casemiro, and Fernandes at midfield
United is getting more and more confident that they can persuade Mason Mount to leave Chelsea.
The Blues are forced to trade the England international this summer or risk losing him for free in a year because they have not yet reached an agreement on a new contract.
And Mount would be a useful player to pair with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the middle of the park.
The 24-year-old’s signing won’t be cheap given reports that the Blues will demand somewhere around £55 million.
With Mount potentially following in the footsteps of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic by switching from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford, United are aiming to reduce that sum.
Forwards: Rashford, Kane, and Antony
Harry Kane’s desire to join United is an open secret.
Despite Tottenham having a terrible season, the star has continued to excel for his team.
Kane won’t be simple to sign, but if the Red Devils agree to fork over somewhere around £100 million, it’s possible he’ll go.
Like last year, Antony may anticipate starting the majority of games on the right wing.
And with his outstanding achievements this season, Marcus Rashford won’t be replaced from the sideline anytime soon.
