Even if Liverpool are apparently interested and there are whispers of a potential bid, Manuel Ugarte is supposedly ready to choose between a move to Chelsea or PSG this summer.
According to Record, Ugarte’s £52 million release clause will be triggered by either Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea or the Argentinean midfielder’s old club PSG before he leaves Sporting Lisbon for Portugal.
In recent weeks, Liverpool has been heavily connected with a move to Ugarte, and at one time, it appeared highly likely that Liverpool would sign with Jurgen Klopp’s team. The 22-year-old is now a clear front-runner for Chelsea and PSG after interest in him substantially decreased recently.
Although Liverpool might have been the midfielder’s ideal move, Chelsea and PSG’s funds seem to be too high for the Reds to match, despite the potential. Ugarte has had a breakout season so far with Sporting in Portugal.
After an outstanding season at Sporting, Ugarte has more than earned the chance to play for Europe’s top. However, Liverpool might have the ideal next step for the South American given that PSG is probably going to underuse the midfielder and Chelsea is still Chelsea.
Ugarte might soon regret choosing Chelsea or PSG over Liverpool.
For the right team, Ugarte has the potential to become a superstar, and with Klopp preparing Liverpool for the future, the midfielder would have been the ideal addition. Because of this, a move to Chelsea or PSG could be a huge mistake.
Both teams are in an odd situation, as we all know, and while Chelsea and PSG may have stronger seasons in the coming year, Liverpool’s organisational setup makes them the ideal club for a player like Ugarte, who might have been a star for the Reds for many years to come.
