Ilkay Gundogan, a midfielder for Manchester City, has provided some information about his ambitions after his deal with the team expires in the summer.
Gundogan has won several awards since transferring from Borussia Dortmund to City in 2016 and has established himself as a key player for Pep Guardiola’s team.
This was best demonstrated by his outstanding FA Cup final performance against Manchester United, during which he scored twice and set a record for the fastest goal in FA Cup final history. Before receiving the trophy as the club captain, he also received the Man of the Match honour.
However, there is talk that the 32-year-old Gundogan may leave the team when his contract at the Etihad Stadium expires, with Barcelona being the most likely suitor.
Gundogan told BBC that despite his desire, he had not yet made a decision.
“Nothing is decided yet,” Gundogan stated.”We’re going to see what happens,” she said.
The German will join Barcelona during the transfer window, according to the Spanish publication Sport. A three-year contract from Barca, according to the report, may have influenced his choice.
Sport also claims that Gundogan will reduce his pay at Camp Nou in order to make the transfer happen with the offer of a three-year contract. Barca must abide by financial fair play rules, thus it is in their best interests to provide a longer-term contract with lower pay.
Gundogan is reportedly a major fan of Barcelona boss Xavi, who will start him among players like Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Gavi. Additionally, the absence of Sergio Busquets creates additional room in the midfield.
Gundogan will defer making his future career plans public until after City’s final game of the season. Manchester City will play Inter Milan in the Champions League final in an effort to win the triple crown.
Gundogan, who has previously won the Premier League trophy and, more recently, the FA Cup against rival Manchester United, might end his time at City by adding the elusive prize to his collection.
Gundogan has made 303 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions over the course of his seven seasons with the team, scoring 60 goals and winning 11 trophies in total, with one more still up for grabs.
