Manchester United is reportedly leading the race to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa after David de Gea‘s latest error in the FA Cup final.
As they attempt to replace De Gea as their starting custodian, United is reportedly considering a move for Costa. The Spaniard made a critical error in the FA Cup final when, despite getting a hand on the ball, he couldn’t stop Ilkay Gundogan‘s second-half shot. This season, in addition to City, he has committed several high-profile mistakes, including ones against Brentford, West Ham, and Sevilla.
Costa, who has emerged as Porto’s go-to custodian, is reportedly being watched by Newcastle and Chelsea as well. He is 23 years old and has already earned 11 caps for Portugal. He has also played more than 100 times for the Portuguese national team.
De Gea reportedly has received a contract offer from United, but the club has not yet approved the agreement. There are still unanswered questions over United’s starting custodian for the upcoming campaign, especially if the team is successful in signing Costa.
WHAT WILL UNITED DO NEXT?
After placing third and winning the Carabao Cup this season, they are set to make a move in the transfer market as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.
