The entire 22/23 season has seen Ethan Laird on loan at QPR. With the exception of one injury, the full-back had a fantastic season and played a significant role for the London-based team.
Laird was rewarded earlier this week with a one-year extension to his current deal as a result of this. In accordance with the Manchester Evening News, this would bind him to the team at least until 2024.
But more recent evidence indicates that Laird might actually be sold before the transfer window closes.
To be sold is Ethan Laird?
The Athletic claims that Laird might permanently depart Manchester United during the summer transfer window.
His deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2019. United recently activated his extra year, and as a result, it is now anticipated that he will be traded before the transfer window closes.
Before he went on loan last season, United wanted him to sign an extension. A settlement, however, could not be reached.
For Queens Park Rangers in the Championship last year, Laird made 33 appearances across all competitions. He’s motivated to play frequently once more.
He is aware that leaving United gives him the best chance for that to occur. Championship teams have already expressed interest in hiring him.
Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Marc Jurado are presently in front of him, putting Laird in a position of direct rivalry.
If the young defender is eager to leave, it could be wise to sell him. Another loan move this year would probably only lead to his departure on his own terms in 2024.
