Prior to contract expirations and campaign planning, the Premier League provided names of players who have been retained and released. Manchester City will be vying for a fourth straight Premier League championship next season.
The Blues, who last week became treble winners by winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history, will open the new season at Turf Moor against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.
Four players have been formally released by Manchester City, including club captain Ilkay Gundogan, who may still agree to a new contract with the Sky Blues amid interest from Barcelona, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund.
The club has also released Benjamin Mendy, who has been on leave since August 2021.
In January, a jury was unable to reach a judgment on two charges. Later this month, Mendy will stand trial again on those allegations.
In addition to releasing 68 players, the Premier League champions also released teenager Terrell Agyemang and defender Rowan McDonald.
Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, two Croatian players who have been linked with moves to the Etihad Stadium, are two players Manchester City is anticipated to add to their roster this summer.
Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham, is also a transfer target for the Blues, however Arsenal currently hold the upper hand in the competition to capture the England midfielder.
The names of Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, and Bernardo Silva are all on the list of players who have been kept, but there have been rumours that they could leave Etihad Stadium.
