Jadon Sancho deserves one more season at Old Trafford, according to former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The winger cost £72.9 million when he left Borussia Dortmund to join United in July 2021, and he hasn’t lived up to that price tag to date. Some fans’ patience is running thin because in his first 79 appearances for the club, he only managed to score 12 goals and record six assists.
In addition, Reds manager Erik ten Hag is said to have grown irritated with Sancho, as reported by the Manchester Evening News back in April, and the possibility of him leaving Old Trafford this summer has not been ruled out. However, Berbatov believes the 23-year-old deserves another chance to demonstrate his abilities.
Jadon should not be sold, according to Berbatov, who spoke to Betfred. “I believe he needs at least one more season at the club to demonstrate his abilities and demonstrate to everyone that he still retains all the attributes we saw him exhibit at Borussia Dortmund.
“It could be time to think about moving him on if he isn’t good again next season. He needs to be ready for the upcoming season well and needs the right surroundings, both on and off the pitch.
I think he will have a successful season if his head is in the proper place.
Sancho spent a significant amount of time away from the team at the end of the previous year after being sent to the Netherlands during the World Cup break to embark on an individual training regimen. Sancho made 41 appearances for United during the 2022–23 season, with seven goals and three assists. He worked with coaches that Ten Hag had recommended to him.
After rejoining the team in February, Sancho fluctuated, showing flashes of his potential but failing to settle into a regular rhythm. He struggled to make an impression when he started the 2-1 FA Cup final loss to Manchester City at Wembley earlier this month.
