Man Utd are ready to launch an astonishing bid to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter, a report has claimed, despite a deal to take Mason Mount from Chelsea also being close.
Newcastle recently shown a great interest in Barella, but they finally declined to match Inter’s asking price for the midfielder. The Champions League runners-up, though, might still be preparing for outside interest in him.
Man United will soon make a massive bid for Barella, according to FC Inter News. Given that Newcastle’s bid of that amount was turned down, they will need to offer more than €70 million.
Theoretically, Inter might be demanding a price of up to €100 million, according to the claims. Declan Rice, who is wanted by both Arsenal and Man City, is valued by West Ham in comparison.
Man Utd, however, has made it clear what they want and might be prepared to move for Barella. Their curiosity is known to both his agent and his employment.
Barella’s contract with Inter expires in 2026. Man Utd has also recently been mentioned as a potential suitor for his teammate Federico Dimarco, a left-back.
But the more striking signing would be Barella. Man Utd would have to defeat Arsenal in order to bring him to the Premier League wearing their colors.
According to the report, Arsenal would also be open to making a bid for Barella. Rice is their primary target, but if Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are sold, the Gunners may also need a new midfielder.
Prior to Barella, Man Utd is making progress on Mount
Given that they are also getting more confident in their ability to purchase Mount from Chelsea, if Man Utd did make a play for him, it would be quite a declaration of purpose.
The Daily Mirror reports that Man Utd and Chelsea have reached an agreement regarding Mount’s transfer fee, which will be around £60 million.
It falls squarely in the middle of Manchester United’s opening offer of £50 million and Chelsea’s ideal asking price of £70 million.
Mount encouraged the transfer by announcing that he wouldn’t extend his one-year-old deal with Chelsea. The Blues must therefore make a profit.
Erik ten Hag is now confident that Mount will be available when Manchester United take off for their preseason schedule.
After Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante left Cobham for Al Ittihad and Manchester City, respectively, the Chelsea academy graduate will be leaving the stadium after them.
In Mount’s situation, a transfer to Manchester United is the best choice. Ten Hag’s midfield would have been significantly strengthened if Barella were to join him at Old Trafford.
For the second half of the season, they had Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich, and they may also let Scott McTominay go this summer. The discarded pair could be improved with Mount and Barella.
As things stand, there should be much more confidence about the Mount deal before any excitement about Barella too. But if the report from FC Inter News is accurate, it might not be long before the second pursuit ramps up.
