The current summer transfer window is when Aymeric Laporte is anticipated to leave Manchester City.
Ilkay Gundogan’s contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire at the end of the month, and earlier this week, it was claimed that he had reached an agreement to sign with Barcelona as a free agent.
In light of this, it has now been asserted that a second member of Pep Guardiola’s team has been positioned in front of the exit.
City anticipates Laporte leaving
In response to Aymeric Laporte’s anticipated departure, City are “expected to spend considerably in defence,” according to a recent story from the Manchester Evening News.
The defender, who Guardiola has previously referred to as a “incredible” player, was acquired by the Citizens for a then-club-record cost of £57 million back in the 2018 January transfer window from Athletic Bilbao.
Since then, the 29-year-old has made 179 appearances for the team in all leagues, contributing 12 goals, and taking home five Premier League championships.
Laporte had only a minor role for Guardiola’s team during City’s recent treble-winning season, starting 20 of the 24 games he appeared in across all competitions and just 11 Premier League games.
This may be the reason the team anticipates his departure this summer. He would likely do so in an effort to join a team where he would be a regular starter.
While some City supporters may be disappointed by the prospect of seeing the Spaniard leave this summer, they could be excited by the other point made claiming that if Laporte were to depart, the club will look to spend significantly on a replacement.
