The Red Devils might finally have settled on who their newest signing will be
Rui Costa, the president of Benfica, believes that Manchester United is prepared to match the release clause for star striker Goncalo Ramos, who has been labelled “the next Cristiano Ronaldo,” and that the Red Devils are thus poised to make their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Erik ten Hag and Manchester United need a new striker this summer because Anthony Martial is the only senior center-forward at the team right now and is prone to injuries. Following his loan from Burnley, Wout Weghorst has left.
Ramos might be the one moving to Old Trafford this summer despite recent speculation around Rasmus Hojlend, Rasmus Kane, and Victor Osimhen.
Correio da Manha, a Portuguese news source, reports that Rui Costa has already declined a club’s offer to buy Ramos for €50 million plus €10 million in add-ons. While Benfica is thought to be seeking roughly €80 million for the 22-year-old, earlier sources indicate his release clause is higher than €100 million.
According to Costa, according to Correio da Manha, Manchester United is willing to meet the release clause but will have to compete with PSG for his services. Early on in this transfer window, the two teams are thought to be in the lead in the race for Ramos.
Ramos gained notoriety in the World Cup 2022 when, during the competition’s knockout stages, he replaced the injured Cristiano Ronaldo and scored a hat-trick against Switzerland.
He then went onto enjoy a stellar season for Benfica, lifting the title as he scored 27 goals and providing 12 assists from 47 appearances in all competitions.
