Chelsea has revealed their fourth and fifth summer additions.
In addition to Diego Moreira signing a contract after leaving Benfica, Alex Matos has arrived from Norwich.
The young pair, who are both 18, are joining on free transfers after making an impression for their previous teams at the youth level.
Matos, a versatile midfielder, played for Norwich last season at both the Under-18 and Under-21 levels but has not yet made his senior football debut.
Moreira, a left winger who has played twice for Benfica, is a member of the Portugal team that will play England on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the European U21 Championship.
Moreira had a “difficult” time in Lisbon, according to Luis Castro, who oversaw Benfica B during the previous season.
He stated to Mais Futebol in April: “He has significantly improved. He plays street football, but it’s becoming better and better.
He is able to balance having great statistics with being entertaining since he adds spectacle to the game. Additionally, he possesses a highly unique trait—the defensive element—that is unusual for a player with his abilities.
“He’s a defensive animal, and I don’t see many wingers worldwide with Diego Moreira’s defensive commitment.”
