As he welcomed Mason Mount to Manchester United, Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes made light of an acrimonious interaction he had with Mount. In the wake of a protracted transfer drama, United has officially announced Mount’s £60 million arrival.
The first United player to welcome Mount was vice-captain Fernandes, who sent a message on social media shortly after the team announced the signing. The attacking midfielder made a comment about how long it took to finalize the transfer.
Fernandes posted a memory of his heated conversation with Mount following Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Instagram. The Portugal star joked, using a furious emoji, “Why did you take so long to sign? Greetings from Mason mount.
The accompanying image showed Fernandes yelling at Mount as he tucked the ball under his arm. The two frequently engaged in fierce competitions on the pitch and will now play together for United.
It happened after United’s football director, John Murtough, created excitement among supporters by describing the team’s new hire as “world class.” Mason is a highly clever footballer and possesses so many excellent technical talents that will significantly improve our squad, Murtough commented when asked about Mount’s arrival.
“Since we have long appreciated his abilities, we are thrilled that he has decided to advance his career here at Old Trafford. His playing style and personal qualities are a fantastic fit for this team, and we all think that working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff can only help him get better.
“Mason is a world-class player in his own right, but he also has the capacity to elevate those around him through his keen sense of the game and tactical awareness. His fervent desire to join United and his quest for more success particularly struck us as we work to improve our performance levels for the upcoming season and beyond.
It’s never easy to leave the team where you were raised, but Manchester United will offer a thrilling new challenge for the next stage of my career, said Mount. I know how powerful a team I’m joining is because I’ve competed against them, and I can’t wait to join this group in its pursuit of major prizes.
“Under Erik ten Hag, the club has advanced significantly, as can be seen by everyone. After meeting with the management and learning about his goals, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming seasons and am prepared to put in the necessary effort.
I am hugely ambitious – I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”
