Manchester United are reportedly set to make a £50m bid for a summer striker target.
Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is expected to be the target of a £50 million bid from Manchester United. According to rumours, Erik ten Hag has selected the Danish striker as his primary target.
Following the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo late last year and loanee Wout Weghorst, United are eager to buy a striker this summer. Marcus Rashford has performed best when playing out wide, while Anthony Martial has shown to be unreliable in terms of fitness.
Harry Kane, the captain of England, was their top target going into the window because his contract expired in 2024. Tottenham, though, is insistent that they won’t sell, and United thought a prospective deal would be too pricey.
The asking price for Victor Osimhen, which exceeds £100 million, is also too much for United, who are operating on a tight budget due to Financial Fair Play constraints. Ten Hag wants to allocate the limited funding he does have across many roles.
For Mason Mount, a deal for up to £60 million has already been agreed upon. Also on the agenda is a custodian, with Andre Onana as the primary target.
The Telegraph has since reported that Ten Hag has selected Hojlund as his top striker contender. Randal Kolo Muani, a French international who was also on his list of targets, was passed over in favor of the Atalanta forward by Ten Hag.
According to the report, United plans to offer £50 million for Hojlund. They could have to hold off until the conclusion of the club’s takeover procedure, though.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim are still vying to buy United. The Glazers are considering their options for offers.
Hojlund, in contrast, moved from Sturm Graz to Atalanta just last summer. However, he immediately made an impact for the Italian team, scoring nine goals in 32 Serie A games.
Additionally, Hojlund scored a hat-trick on his full international debut for Denmark earlier this year, drawing interest from clubs all across Europe. Speaking last month, the 20-year-old acknowledged that joining United would be in line with his professional goals.
It’s a big club, so if it says they want me, I must have done something right, Hojlund told the press. My objective is to get to the very top, just like Manchester United is. It will therefore be enormous.
“We have to wait and see. As you can see and hear, I have no doubt that a few strikers will experience a lot of change this summer. Something will undoubtedly happen because many teams are lacking a No 9, and then we’ll have to see if I’m in it.
