The news that Joao Cancelo would be allowed to join FC Barcelona on loan this summer by Premier League champions Manchester City is good news for FC Barcelona, according to Laia Tudel via Tot Costa.
Although Financial Fair Play restrictions make it difficult for them to sign anyone unless there are some exits, the Blaugrana are in the market for a new right-back.
Cancelo is still the favoured choice for manager Xavi Hernandez, who is looking for an experienced player in the position, despite moves for more affordable possibilities like Ivan Fresneda and Pablo Maffeo being taken into consideration.
But considering the state of the economy and the player’s value, a permanent transfer for the Portuguese international would be impractical. Therefore, Barça is seeking to sign the ex-Valencia and Juventus star on a loan with a buyout clause.
It was rumored that Manchester City preferred to sell him for a flat fee this summer, particularly given interest from Arsenal.
According to the most recent information, Cancelo and the clubs regard it as a viable alternative, therefore the Premier League winners may let him join Barcelona on loan.
Although there is still much work to be done, it appears that things are moving forward in the background.
For starters, Cancelo would need to reduce his €8 million per year salary if he wishes to secure a transfer to Barcelona. Furthermore, Barça will need to improve their Fair Play situation by offloading some of their unwanted players at the earliest possible.
However, a deal could happen in the coming weeks because Man City sees a loan exit to Barcelona as an option.
