The transfer of Kyle Walker from Manchester City to Bayern Munich this summer is nearly complete, with not much left to do.
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Walker has informed City boss Pep Guardiola that he wants to transfer to Bayern Munich. Walker is traveling to Japan with the team, but for Bayern, it won’t be a problem because it won’t stop the transaction from going through.
Plettenberg asserts that although Bayern and City have already agreed on personal matters, they must still negotiate the appropriate transfer amount. Walker will sign a deal that will keep him in Munich through June 2025, with an option for an additional year.
Walker has previously made his intentions plain, but Manchester City representatives still hoped to speak with him this week, according to Tobi Altschaffl of Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). Altschaffl hypothesizes that this might simply be City’s way of buying time while they look for a suitable right-back replacement. Joao Cancelo and Issa Kabore have both returned from loans at Bayern Munich and Marseille, respectively, but neither is anticipated to remain at the club this summer.
Walker would then travel to join up with Bayern after passing his medical if a deal were to be reached while he and the rest of City’s team are on their pre-season tour of Japan.
Walker would become Bayern’s third defensive acquisition of the summer if the deal is approved. According to intelligence from James Ducker of The Telegraph (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern is reportedly keeping Walker away from Juventus as well. The Serie A team is also interested in signing him because they are looking to add another right back, but now that Walker has said “yes” to Bayern and told Guardiola personally, they are all but out of the running.
