Countdown to the Move: Man City Star Takes Medical in London for £30m Transfer
The Algerian first agreed to personal terms with the Saudi club before it was announced on Wednesday that the two teams had struck an agreement on a deal worth £30 million for the winger. This deal progressed rapidly throughout the week.
According to Sky Sports, Mahrez has been permitted to skip Man City’s pre-season tour of South Korea and Japan to finish the deal and sign a three-year contract.
The 32-year-old is currently completing his physical in London, according to Abdellah Boulma, and once it is over, the transfer can proceed to be finalized.
Over the past five years, Mahrez has been a key player for Pep Guardiola, but last season, his significance waned. The Algerian star lost his spot in the City manager’s best eleven despite playing 47 games and contributing to 15 goals and 13 assists.
The 32-year-old will undoubtedly be missed by the Premier League champions, but the former Leicester star must have believed that his time at City was up and that this summer felt like the ideal time to cash in with Al Ahli offering him a large sum of money to leave.
