If Liverpool receives a £60 million offer for one player this summer, they have been instructed to sell him.
Last week, it was revealed that Luis Diaz had been requested by Al Hilal boss Jorge Jesus, with the Saudi Pro League team reportedly prepared to pay £43 million for the Colombian (Record).
The 26-year-old has done well since joining Liverpool 18 months ago, but Frank McAvennie, a former striker for West Ham and Celtic, thinks the Reds should gladly accept a £60 million proposal for him if it comes their way.
According to the 63-year-old, he would be worth between £50 million and £60 million. Diaz is a good player, and the other night, he looked good. I believe he could have a significant impact on Liverpool’s events this season.
I would accept if they could receive £60 million for him because I believe Jurgen can find a better player for that. Although I believe he has talent, he occasionally ran around last year like a chicken without a head. Jurgen does not, in my opinion, have time for that.
“I believe he would enjoy it over there because there would be less pressure and he could show off a little. I believe that he would want to leave whether they kept him or not.
Every player has a price, but Liverpool has no business allowing Diaz to leave for £60 million this summer.
Jurgen Klopp can’t afford to make many more senior exits from Anfield; there have already been a number of them, and two more could happen shortly if Fabinho and Jordan Henderson go through with their speculated moves to Saudi Arabia.
He should absolutely not allow the Colombian to leave unless a truly game-changing offer is made, and £60 million is not a truly game-changing offer for a player who cost the Reds £37.5 million in January 2022 (BBC Sport) and has received high praise for his performances on Merseyside.
The wealth on offer in the Middle East has already attracted many elite football players from Europe, but Liverpool must assert their position as one of the top clubs worldwide and refuse to submit to this player magnet for the newly wealthy.
If a potential buyer for Diaz really wants him, they’ll have to offer much more than £60 million.
