Mark Goldbridge believes that Manchester United must sell midfielder Scott McTominay this summer.
The Scotland international began his career as a striker at the United Academy before moving to defense.
At the end of the 2017–18 season, Jose Mourinho elevated him to the first team after he experienced a significant growth spurt that allowed him to switch from a winger to a center midfielder.
As a reward for McTominay’s efforts in the next season, Mourinho created an honorary title, the “Jose Mourinho Player of the Season” award.
The Scotsman has been a steady presence in the middle of Manchester United’s midfield, putting on trustworthy performances without protruding as a significant member of the team.
However, under Erik ten Hag, the 26-year-old dropped down the pecking order in the second half of last season, sparking rumors that he would be traded this summer.
The Daily Mail reports that United have set an asking price of £40 million for the midfielder, with West Ham reportedly showing interest.
And according to Goldbridge, United must sell for that sum.
Goldbridge feels that Man United ought to offload McTominay.
Find a medium ground if West Ham is interested and wants to pay £40 million or £30 million, according to Goldbridge, who was speaking on The United Stand.
“Please refrain from saying that you will refuse £35 million because you want £40 million. McTominay hasn’t played well in almost a year. He is not a seasoned starter for the first squad. He has a net worth of $30 million.
“You won’t receive that money ever again if we don’t take the money for him right away. United should therefore be discussing a deal at this time.
Goldbridge then listed six reasons why McTominay should leave Old Trafford, including the six midfielders who might be preferred over him.
If you possess Casemiro, Amrabat, Mainoo, Eriksen, Mount, and Bruno, you are in a very strong position. What venue does Scott McTominay play in? If he is playing, he is depriving better players and possibilities of playing time.
“You cannot stand there and say, ‘No, we don’t need to do the trade,’ if West Ham is going to pay £30 million right now. You must complete the agreement.
“He won’t have a worth of £50 million in a year. He will be valued at £20 million. Do the transaction now.
