At the ripe old age of 23, Phil Foden has won it all for Manchester City.
He has now focused on accomplishing the same for England.
Foden was awarded player of the tournament when the Young Lions won the Under-17 World Cup in India seven years ago. He has won five Premier League championships, the Champions League, two FA Cups, and four Carabao Cups with the club he has loved since he was a young child. But he said that he would love nothing more than to put an end to the country’s quest for a significant trophy as Euro 2024 approaches.
“I don’t know what comes next, but winning with the national team would be fantastic,” Foden remarked.
“I am driven to maintain succeeding every single season; it’s just who I am. Even if last season was fantastic, it’s time for me to go on and strive to win all those trophies once more.
“The manager (Pep Guardiola) has mentioned it, stating he hopes we enter the season with the same zeal. It’s much harder because teams will want to defeat you even more after seeing what we accomplished last season.
I believe that this season may be difficult, but the players are prepared and demonstrating their level of ability. We are eager to take on the task and are prepared.
When Manchester United became the first team to win the triple crown, Foden had just turned one. But Guardiola assisted City in emulating their formidable opponents last season, and as he has put his players through their preseason paces in the Far East, he has been driving home the point that he wants even more.
The Blues have now gone on to Seoul and a matchup with Atletico Madrid at the weekend after defeating the Yokohama Marinos and Real Madrid in Japan.
Foden has been given a more center position after spending the majority of his career attacking from the wing. When the real action begins, he expects to be given the chance to prove that he can succeed departing captain Ilkay Gundogan in that role.
What we accomplished took some time to take in, according to Foden. It was enjoyable to take a step back and consider what we had truly accomplished. It will be challenging to repeat the feat, but we are confident that the squad is up to the task.
“During the preseason, I was in a more important position. We’ll just have to wait and see if that happens when the season begins, but if it does, I’ll just try to be prepared.
“I am certain that I can play wherever up front and in the middle as well. Just be ready for whatever the manager decides. That would entail more defensive duties and a great deal more material to understand.
But I used to play there, so I believe I can fill that role if the manager wants me to. Simply said, I want to see how he portrays me.
“I believe the manager wanted me to play further forward after noticing my goal threat. There may not be more goals if I play more centrally, but there would be much more to my game in that position.
“I’d be able to demonstrate my abilities to the public much more. I would be more attentive and engaged. I believe such a position has a great deal more responsibility, so if I have the chance, I’ll do my very best to meet the task.
