Anthony Elanga was allowed to move to Nottingham Forest this week after Erik ten Hag and football director John Murtough sat down to discuss his Manchester United future
After colliding with Wrexham striker Paul Mullen, Ryan Reynolds of Hollywood sent Manchester United custodian Nathan Bishop a message.
Mullen’s lung was pierced as a result of an appalling first-half collision with Bishop during United’s 3-1 loss to Wrexham at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
Bishop was devastated by the incident, but it has since come to light that Wrexham co-owner and Deadpool actor Reynolds sent the 23-year-old custodian a personal message to convince him that he was not to blame.
The manager of Wrexham, Phil Parkinson, expressed his “fume” over the incident and the match official’s choice to only issue Bishop a yellow card rather than a straight red.
The young goalkeeper was concerned about his role in the event, but Wrexham and former United goalkeeper Ben Foster went to Bishop after the game to offer his support, and Reynolds did the same.
Mullin was apologized to by Bishop on social media, and the Wrexham striker assured him that he was not at fault when Bishop messaged him after the game to explain how the collision was inadvertent.
Anthony Elanga spoke with United manager Erik ten Hag and football director John Murtough in New Jersey before the attacker left the club’s US tour to finalize a transfer to Nottingham Forest.
The trio discussed the transfer and why it was the greatest choice for the Sweden international, admitting that the move was necessary for him to play regularly for the first squad.
The 21-year-old Elanga was aware that his playing time at United would be limited the following season and that a transfer was the wisest course of action for everybody concerned.
Elanga’s most notable performance for the club came in a Champions League match the season before last when he scored in a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid. United will get an initial £15 million for Elanga.
Depending on how well Elanga does over the following three years, the price may increase to £20 million, and United has incorporated a sell-on provision in the contract in case he decides to leave.
After United lost to Real Madrid 2-0 in Houston, winger Vinicius Jr. supported Alejandro Garnacho, his teammate.
Vinicius Jr. gave Garnacho his personalized No. 7 jersey outside the NRG Stadium locker rooms along with a unique message.
Vinicius called Garnacho “el crack” (a slang term for a superstar in Spanish and South American football jargon) and said “Para mi hermano,” which is Portuguese for “For my brother.”
United’s squad trained at the NRG the morning after their defeat to Real, before flying back to their San Diego training camp.
After their training session, the team took the chance to meet players from the Houston Texans NFL team, who play their games at the NRG, before taking off.
With players from both teams switching shirts, United’s Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, and Luke Shaw had the chance to hone their kicking and throwing abilities with Texans punter Cameron Johnston and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.
