Roy Keane, a former Manchester United player, has never been shy in sharing his thoughts on the play of the players at his old team.
Keane may be content with the likely departures of some players at this point as United manager Erik ten Hag seeks to restructure the team. Keane has never been shy about sharing his opinions on what is occurring at Old Trafford, and the former midfielder’s remarks frequently provoke debates among analysts and supporters.
Keane has previously attacked Nemanja Matic, Fred, and Scott McTominay as United’s midfield alternatives. He thought that these players lacked the talent necessary for a team like United.
Keane stated: “People talk about Fred and McTominay in midfield, they’ve got their time, we’ve seen them” in his capacity as a commentator on Sky Sports in 2020.
They’re not horrible players, in my opinion, but they won’t help United win league championships again. I don’t see it, I don’t see the great players that Tim [Cahill, a fellow analyst] makes reference to as Man United’s great players.
“If you think Fred, McTominay, and Matic in midfield would get Man United back to the heights of winning titles, then you’re living in cuckoo land,” the former Republic of Ireland international continued, “then you’re living in cuckoo country. [Donny] van de Beek has come into the club, and there’s nothing wrong with biding your time.
They won’t; although I believe they are good players and like them, they haven’t advanced to the next level, and United are undoubtedly seeking for that.
Matic departed United at that point and joined Roma on a free transfer in the summer. According to the Express, there is now a chance that Fred and McTominay may also be leaving the club.
According to reports, the Red Devils are open to bids for both players, with Galatasaray showing interest in Fred. The club hasn’t yet received an offer that they find acceptable, but the pair’s future seems to be written in stone.
They won’t, even if I think they’re good players and like them; United are clearly looking for that next step, and they haven’t made it there yet.
At that moment, Matic left United and joined Roma free of charge in the summer. The Express reports that there is now a possibility that Fred and McTominay will also be quitting the team.
The Red Devils are reportedly open to offers for both players, with Galatasaray reportedly interested in Fred. Although the club hasn’t yet received a reasonable offer, the future of the duo appears to be set in stone.
