Mikel Arteta praised the “tremendous” Gabriel Jesus, saying that he “changed the world last season” for Arsenal.
After he recovered from a string of ailments, Arsenal manager Arteta might play the Brazil striker against Everton on Sunday.
Jesus has played as a substitute twice this season in the Premier League, scoring his most recent goal on September 3 in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
The former Manchester City forward’s game, according to Arteta, is about more than just scoring goals.
He is a fantastic player, according to Arteta, whose team finished second in the Premier League in 2022–2023.
A very significant player for us. Our world was altered by him last season. All of you could see that. He will play an extremely significant role for us.
“I believe he gave opponents a different vibe, a different belief, a different menace, and a different terror.
He accomplished it in a really natural way, and I believe he made a significant contribution to the progress we made last season.
“He generates room for others, which is a significant quality. He tracks a lot of attention and players in the manner he plays.
“It was a no-brainer for us to do it and we could see the impact he had right away in the team,” said the club manager. “When you sign a player you know, who has done it in the league and he’s got the hunger to join us for the right reasons.”
Arsenal’s last victory at Goodison Park came in 2017, and in their last five games there, they have only managed to score twice.
Arteta, a former Everton player, praised Sean Dyche’s team and outlined the standards that his players must meet in order for them to win all three games.
Arteta continued, “For me, Everton’s quality is not their physicality, it’s what they do and how well they play, and Sean (Dyche) does well at doing that.
“Just talking about physicality doesn’t reflect the qualities they have, the reasons they do it, the intentions they have, how they build sequences and momentum in matches. There’s a lot of work there so it is much deeper than that in my opinion.
“They (Arsenal players) are aware of how challenging a trip to Everton is. When you play against a team like that, dedication and attention are obviously required since we have experience with it.
Eddie Nketiah was complimented by Arteta after being included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad earlier this month, despite the striker not appearing for even a single minute during triumphs over Scotland and Ukraine.
To be selected for the England national squad, in his opinion, is a significant accomplishment.
“That shows you the level there is,” I said. “I was really happy and proud of him. It’s the coaching staff’s decision (on who starts), and he’s going to have to earn the right to play.”
