The accomplished snooker player Neil Robertson has been vegan for almost ten years and will play in this week’s British Open.
Robertson’s journey into veganism was initially motivated by fellow snooker player Peter Ebdon, who had already chosen a vegan lifestyle some years before Robertson. Although his dietary choice is in line with that of Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, Robertson was first inspired by Peter Ebdon.
The 41-year-old snooker prodigy has an excellent resume; from 2006 to 2022, he won at least one professional competition.
In order to improve his health and wellbeing, he switched to a vegan diet in 2014.
Robertson gave this justification for going vegan in a 2015 interview with Great Vegan Athletes: “I thought I wanted to eat healthier to give myself the chance to get the most out of my career.
After meeting with Peter Ebdon, a vegan for almost three years, I finally decided to give the vegan diet a try. I had been interested in it for months.
Despite his dedication to avoiding animal products, Robertson chooses not to identify as a full-fledged vegan because it can be challenging to find vegan snooker shoes.
He declared, “Going completely vegan is something I could see myself doing in the future,” indicating his willingness to perhaps change to a vegan diet in the future.
Knowing we can obtain everything we need on a plant-based diet makes me feel like a better person, for sure.
As opposed to many of his rivals who eat meat, Robertson attributes his ability to avoid food-related problems while competing in snooker events around the world to his vegan diet.
He stressed the difficulties of finding safe and appropriate meat while on tour, particularly in nations like China where he saw many players experience food sickness.
He said, “With travel, especially when you go to China, it came down to how I was at tournaments.
There is a lot of questionable meat available, no matter how you look at it.
There are frequently 12 players who get food poisoning.
“I really didn’t want to be one of those players.”
Elite athletes have been adopting vegan diets in recent years; two of the most prominent plant-based sports figures are Lewis Hamilton and Neil Robertson.
A number of well-known individuals, like Venus Williams, Alex Morgan, and Novak Djokovic, have made the switch to veganism and attribute their success to these decisions.
Lewis Hamilton, a proponent of veganism, has credited his dietary decision with increasing his energy and general wellbeing.
“I have more energy, and I’m so much more productive,” he said to Men’s Health.
I feel much better when I wake up, my thoughts are sharper, and my body is more rested.
“I sleep better, recover more quickly, and suffer from less allergies.
There are just a lot of effects.
I’m in better physical shape than I’ve ever been, and a lot of that is because to my plant-based diet programme.
The 33-year-old’s season, as well as his affiliation with Jumbo-Visma, will come to an end at Il Lombardia the following weekend after competing in Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday.
