Julian Alvarez is expected to receive a new deal from Manchester City later this year.
The 23-year-old just finalized the move to the Etihad Stadium at the start of this season after agreeing to a contract that would last until the conclusion of 2026–2027.
Pep Guardiola holds Alvarez in high regard, but the Premier League’s top teams have a lot of competition for spots, so Alvarez has had to wait for consistent playing time.
In total, in all competitions, Alvarez received 12 starts and 17 substitute appearances, scoring nine goals and providing two assists.
Alvarez, who contributed with four goals from seven games for Argentina at the World Cup, saw a significant increase in popularity.
Regardless of his place in the senior squad at the moment, the dynamic attacker has little chance of leaving City in the near future.
But, The Mirror reports that City is prepared to reward Alvarez for his contributions to the club and country since the end of July.
It is anticipated that both parties will simply agree to new conditions, and any new deal is likely to last until 2028 or 2029.
Alvarez has only played more than 45 minutes once in the last five games, despite having a strong debut season in English football.
The former River Plate player played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, then on February 12, when Guardiola rested Erling Braut Haaland, he played in the second half against Aston Villa.
Alvarez, though, was only used as an 88th-minute substitute against Nottingham Forest three days after going unused as a substitute against Arsenal earlier in the week.
Alvarez will be hoping to get a start when City takes on RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the opening leg of their Champions League round of 16 matchups.
