Since Jeremie Frimpong was last associated with Barcelona, it has been almost three months. However, if the information provided by Carlos Monfort is accurate, the Catalan squad has opted to revive its interest in the Bayern Leverkusen prospect.
In fact, the journalist reports that Deco, who views Frimpong as a top candidate for Barcelona, spoke with the player’s management. Joao Cancelo, though, continues to be the Blaugrana’s top priority this summer despite the interest.
But Barcelona has been informed that Leverkusen may let Frimpong leave for just €30 million if the Portuguese signing process fails.
An amazing talent, Frimpong
In the years after he arrived at Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in 2021, Frimpong has advanced quickly.
During the 2022–23 season, the former Manchester City starlet played 48 games and excelled as a wing-back for Xabi Alonso’s squad, scoring nine goals and assisting on 11 more.
It aroused Barcelona’s interest in the Netherlands international, but after it became known that a transfer to Manchester United would be imminent for him, things quieted down.
However, since that has not happened, Barça may once more consider Frimpong, while Cancelo continues to be the top priority.
Barcelona has sent a formal bid for Cancelo
One of the many options for Barcelona that Cancelo has is Jeremie Frimpong. Ivan Fresneda and even Juan Foyth are reportedly being considered by the Blaugrana in addition to the City full-back.
But given that Fresneda is still unproven equity and Xavi prefers a seasoned veteran for the right-back position, the team seems to be split on the matter.
Foyth is currently thought of as a strong option, but any acquisition of the Argentina international might cost up to €55 million.
What are the other alternatives?
Jeremie Frimpong happens to be one of the many alternatives of Cancelo for Barcelona. It is believed that apart from the City full-back, the Blaugrana are also considering the likes of Ivan Fresneda and even Juan Foyth.
The team, however, appears to be quite divided about Fresneda as he is still an unproven equity and Xavi only wants a proven veteran for the right-back role.
Now, Foyth is considered to be a solid option but any operation to acquire the Argentina international could go right up to €55 million.
At €30 million, Frimpong could be a good alternative but it has been established that Barcelona is looking for a more defensively inclined right-back and this is where the Leverkusen full-back does not fit.
