Paul Merson has made a guess about who will win the West Ham vs Chelsea match, but he based his guess on someone who won’t even be playing in the game.

On Sunday, West Ham and Chelsea will play a football match at the London Stadium. A football expert named Paul Merson has guessed who he thinks will win the game.
Both the Hammers and the Blues started their games last weekend with a tie, where both teams scored one goal each.
If one of the teams wins on Sunday, it would mean they had a really good beginning to the season in 2023/24.
Merson believes that one team will win the game and get three points, but his reason for thinking that is really strange.
Paul Merson makes West Ham vs Chelsea prediction based on someone who won’t be playing
Merson wrote his regular column for Sportskeeda ahead of the upcoming Premier League fixtures this weekend.
And the well-renowned pundit suggested that Reece James will have a key role to play in a 2-1 win for Chelsea:
“West Ham United did well last weekend against Bournemouth. They had to settle for a draw but they are a team that’s difficult to break down. I think Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher played brilliantly against Liverpool. I also think Nicolas Jackson will be among the goals this season. However, if Chelsea are to make an impact and fight for a top 4 sport, they will rely heavily on Ben Chilwell and Reece James. Both of them need to stay fit and healthy throughout the season. The two wing-backs have got quality and they get up and down the pitch so well. I think Chelsea will cause West Ham problems on the counter-attack and I expect them to get all three points here. If they can win this game against the Hammers and beat Luton Town next week, that will be a solid start for Chelsea.”
Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Chelsea
Merson’s comment is surprising because Reece James can’t play on Sunday because he hurt his leg.
Maybe Merson forgot that James was hurt, or maybe he wrote the article before he found out James got injured. We don’t really know for sure.
I promise you that Reece James will not give us any trouble on Sunday afternoon.
The West Ham vs Chelsea game starts at 4:30 PM and you can watch it live on Sky Sports, which is the only channel showing it.
