Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams may leave Manchester United before the transfer season shuts, according to manager Erik ten Hag.
On Saturday, Manchester United lost dishearteningly to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they got off to a better start and ought to have been awarded a penalty. Spurs, however, came out of the first half with a stronger showing.
The London team was by far the superior team after the break, and they ultimately received compensation. Prior to Lisandro Martinez’s own goal, Pape Matar Sarr got the scoring started.
Following the defeat, Ten Hag was confronted with a number of inquiries, one of which concerned the absence of Van de Beek, Williams, and Harry Maguire from the team.
While Williams and Van van Beek are seeking fresh challenges outside of the club, the manager admitted that Maguire was forced to leave the game due to a minor injury.
“Yesterday, the final session, ‘H’ dropped out with a tiny issue, and after September 1 everything may change, but we need players who are absolutely with their brains in our team,” he stated (via Manchester Evening News).
And while I wouldn’t say the guys you just mentioned are, it’s clear that they are currently looking elsewhere [on Van van Beek and Williams].
Van van Beek performed well for the Red Devils throughout the preseason. In the 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund, he recorded two assists in addition to the game-winning goal against Lyon.
He does not, however, appear in the manager’s starting lineup. Van van Beek is unlikely to unseat unquestioned starter Bruno Fernandes in the attacking midfield position.
The former Ajax player has a very limited chance of playing ahead of Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen at the number eight position right now, according to Ten Hag.
We are not shocked that he is considering moving elsewhere. He was recently a target for Real Sociedad, but they decided to sign Arsen Zakharyan instead.
In the upcoming days, the Dutch international will be expecting more proposals. Williams, however, will be looking to relaunch his career outside of Old Trafford.
In the preseason, he filled in for an injured Tyrell Malacia as Luke Shaw’s backup. Although the Dutchman is still recovering, United has made room for his summer exit.
This could be the cause because Diogo Dalot is more than capable of playing as a left-back. United will be trying to get their money back from the pair so they can spend it on another new hire.
