Chelsea may use unconventional means to acquire a new number 10 before the summer transfer window closes next month.
According to a recent article from the Daily Mail, the Blues are considering an unconventional strategy for Brennan Johnson, an offensive midfielder for Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea has been forced to start over as they explore the market for at least one more attacking player after recent failure in their pursuit of Michael Olise of Crystal Palace.
And based on these most recent claims, Todd Boehly’s Blues are now reportedly interested in Forest’s Johnson, 22.
Chelsea is rumored to be willing to pay cash and receive defensive midfielder Andrey Santos in exchange for Forest giving up the 22-year-old Wales international.
Although Forest’s position on the potential trade is still unknown, there is no guarantee Johnson will accept the move because the player is rumored to prioritize playing time, which might make Spurs—another club that has been widely linked to Johnson—the favorite to sign him.
Johnson, who has three years left on his contract and was promoted to Forest’s senior first squad in 2019, has personally assisted 31 goals in 107 games across all competitions since that time.
