In the Premier League on Saturday, Arsenal were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Fulham, denying Mikel Arteta’s team the provisional top spot in the standings.
Andreas Pereira scored the game-winning goal for Fulham in just 57 seconds after seizing on an errant back pass from Bukayo Saka. Seeing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale well off his line, the midfielder fired from 30 yards out to quiet the home crowd.
After an hour had passed, though, Arsenal was awarded a penalty for a foul on Fabio Vieira, and Saka earned himself a point with a confident penalty kick in the pouring rain. Two minutes later, Vieira sent in a cross for Eddie Nketiah to score, bringing Arsenal’s lead to 2-1.
Calvin Bassey’s second caution for a dirty tackle on Nketiah to stop a counterattack reduced Fulham to 10 men, but Joao Palhinha’s goal from a corner in the 87th minute salvaged a draw for his team.
