Mikaela Mayer doesn’t intend to stay put.
She just moved up to the junior welterweight limit of 135 pounds, and she is now doing the same for her Saturday night matchup in Manchester against Silvia Bortot.
Her battle will be on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Liam Smith’s rematch at the AO Arena.
Mayer doesn’t want to hang around 140.
In order to compete against IBF world champion Natasha Jonas, she plans to move up to the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
And she is hoping to get that fight very soon.
Natasha Jonas is at the top of Mayer’s list because she presents me with the most feasible, urgent fight.
“I’m hoping we can finish that fight in late December or early January. After this argument, I want to go there right away. After this bout, I’m moving to 147 pounds instead of staying at 140 pounds. I want to compete for a global championship right away because I think I’m ready for it.
Mayer wants to make a statement against former European champion Bortot before she gives Jonas any thought.
After making that declaration, Mayer will concentrate entirely on landing the biggest welterweight fights imaginable.
Mayer declared, “I’m more committed and motivated than before. “I want to demonstrate my boxing prowess. I want to project strength and force from the outside. Put it all together with just a tiny touch of everything. But I truly want to show off my strengths.
“It’s just to keep myself occupied and gradually prepare for the 147-pound weight class that I intend to compete in. We do, in fact, have a plan. Thus, bigger battles are to come. I am big enough, skilled enough, and experienced enough to be fighting at a lighter weight. I feel so much better now that I’m training with this larger weight, and I love training more because it’s not as taxing. It isn’t as mentally demanding. I feel wonderful in my body. I have more energy. I’m now enjoying the results of all my labor of love.
