Before Sunday’s Premier League trip to Manchester United, the Arsenal manager was speaking to the media.
Nketiah has scored twice in the Gunners’ first three Premier League games this season, which is good.
The Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate has given the Arsenal star a spot in his team for September’s international games.
On Saturday, September 9, England plays Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifying match at Wroclaw, Poland.
On Tuesday, September 12, they go to Hampden Park to play a friendly match against Scotland.
“I adore his mindset”
Nketiah, who spent a record-breaking amount of time with the Under-21s, will hopefully have the chance to make his senior England debut.
With 16 goals in 17 appearances for the Young Lions, the Arsenal star is the team’s all-time leading scorer.
At his pre-game press conference on Friday, Arteta was effusive in his appreciation for Nketiah.
The call-up of Nketiah left the Arsenal manager “so pleased,” according to football.london. “If anyone in this squad deserves it, it’s him.
“An academy athlete who occasionally had to push through obstacles since his path wasn’t clear.
I admire his work ethic, mentality, and level of passion for the game.
“In this country you have to be phenomenal to play there at the level. I’m so happy for him.”
Our view
It’s great to see Nketiah shine for Arsenal and just as good to see him rewarded for his efforts with an international call-up.
There have been several occasions where his Gunners future seemed uncertain but he has persevered, worked hard, and is now reaping the rewards.
Under Arteta, Arsenal’s standards have become sky high, so it speaks volumes that Nketiah has broken into the regular picture.
Hopefully we’ll see more of the same in the England picture. Better still, his call-up comes at a good time, with an international tournament just months away.
