David Silva called Erling Haaland “a beast” and expressed his desire to have played with him at Manchester City.
Last season, Haaland led City to the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League Triple Crown with 52 goals from 53 appearances across all competitions.
With six goals in as many games, Norway’s standout Haaland—recently named PFA and UEFA Player of the Year—is continuing his hot start to the new season and is on pace to match his goal-scoring feats from the previous one.
Silva had a prolific 10-year career with the Blues, scoring 77 goals in 436 games for City. However, he was also renowned for his ability to set others up, recording 140 assists.
The former City great claimed that, knowing that the lethal 23-year-old goal machine would score almost always, he would have delighted in creating opportunities for Haaland.
“Haaland is a beast, and I like the way he moves on the field,” gushed Silva. “I would have loved to play with him and aid in his goal scoring!”
In addition, Silva believes his old team is “unstoppable” after their historic Treble success and perfect start to the current season.
After winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last season, Silva, who spent ten years at City before departing in 2020, believes Pep Guardiola’s team is on their own.
Former playmaker Silva, 37, forced to retire this summer after a knee injury, said City – who have won five of the last six league titles – can dominate for the foreseeable future.
City have begun their latest title defence with four straight wins to top the Premier League and added the UEFA Super Cup to their formidable trophy haul under Guardiola last month.
“They have an amazing team with some amazing players,” Silva remarked. Pep is in his eighth campaign with City. He had to adjust to the Premier League the first year, but now they are virtually unbeatable.
The only team I can think of that might have a chance to challenge City is Arsenal. What’s left? I doubt they are capable.
While at City, Silva won five League Cups, two FA Cups, and four Premier League championships. He was also present when City won the Champions League to secure the Treble.
Silva stated, “Last season, I saw almost all of City’s Champions League games. “I was unable to win it while I was there, but I’m ecstatic that the club was able to do so at this time.
They merit it. The club deserves it, and the fans deserve to take home the Triple Crown of the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. It was a remarkable accomplishment.
