Palmer has now provided an explanation for his decision to leave Man City, where he has been on the books since 2010. Palmer has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
“I’m not saying that because I’ve never done it, I avoided the competition for spots at City. I wanted more of an opportunity to play – in my position – and to have more of an impact after being there [with the first team] for a few years, he said.
“It was a significant choice. I knew I was flying to London the next day when I left the training facility on Thursday. As I sat in the car and prepared to go, it all suddenly hit me. You’ve been here for 15 years, I was just thinking.
I am unaware of any other options. Never have I received a loan. I have never left Manchester. I’ve only ever travelled outside of Manchester for vacations or away games. Even though going to Chelsea feels strange, there is no time to waste. I need to act quickly.
The wide forward, who only joined the club on deadline day, has already played once for the Blues, losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. He will be eager to make his professional debut against Bournemouth on September 17 at the Vitality Stadium.
