Christopher Nkunku hopes to return during the international break, although Scott Minto has expressed doubts about the Frenchman’s starting position in a talkSPORT interview on November 13, 2023, at 8:18.
Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Nicolas Jackson—the strikers for Chelsea now playing—have all been quite effective lately.
In yesterday’s 4–4 tie between the Blues and Manchester City, all three of those players scored. It was Jackson’s fourth goal in the last two contests.
Scott Minto unsure about who Christopher Nkunku replaces
Given the current condition of Chelsea’s attackers, Minto is unsure of who will sub in for Nkunku.
Speaking about the 25-year-old on talkSPORT, he stated: “To be honest, as I sit down, I am thinking. It sounds fantastic that Nkunku is returning, but who will he replace? Chelsea’s best player to date has most likely been Cole Palmer.
“You could argue that Raheem Sterling is Chelsea’s best player right now, and I’m not sure why he isn’t in the England team. I believe something occurred there. Conor Gallagher is another player that stands out for his intensity and his demonstrated maturity and skill on the ball.
“I’m not sure where Nkunku enters, perhaps for Jackson personally, but the way he is scoring… However, you do possess a deep strength.
Christopher Nkunku must start.
Nkunku was acquired by Chelsea from RB Leipzig for a hefty £52 million, according to BBC Sport.
Over the past two seasons, the France international has demonstrated that he is a very good goal scorer, tallying 36 goals in 59 Bundesliga games.
It will be intriguing to watch who makes room for Nkunku because he will eventually need to be given a fair shot in this squad.
While it would be unjust if Conor Gallagher lost his starting position to make room for the former Leipzig player, it would not be entirely meritocratic if any of Chelsea’s current attackers were benched in favour of Nkunku.
Over the weekend, the England international produced yet another outstanding effort versus City. Ederson was unable to stop Jackson’s strike, which led to Jackson grabbing the rebound and tying the score 3-3 for the afternoon.
Nevertheless, given Nkunku’s abilities, one would anticipate that Mauricio Pochettino would bench a player to make room for the former Paris Saint-Germain player in his starting lineup.
