The left-back was benched, but he scored on Saturday against Burnley after entering the game.
Because it demonstrates the depth of Arsenal’s roster, Oleksandr Zinchenko sees his competition with Takehiro Tomiyasu for the left-back position as a “positive sign” for the Gunners.
On Saturday, Zinchenko started and scored as Arsenal defeated Burnley 3-1 to close the gap on leaders Manchester City to just one point.
The Ukrainian had started behind Tomiyasu in the first two Arsenal games prior to the weekend, as Mikel Arteta had chosen to start Tomiyasu.
Zinchenko is enjoying the rivalry for his spot in the team, even though Tomiyasu was awarded Arsenal’s Player of the Month for October.
Every position is competitive and we have an amazing team,” he remarked. “It is unquestionably encouraging, in my opinion.
“Our course is correct. Together with the coaching staff, we are working really hard. We put our all into all we do every day, and the enthusiasm of our fans gives us hope for a bright future.”
Arsenal’s victory over Burnley completed a successful week, which began with their victory over Sevilla last Wednesday in the Champions League. After losing to West Ham and Newcastle back-to-back, the Gunners needed to recover.
“I don’t know any team in the world that didn’t lose a game, but it is important to react well from the defeats and it gives you your confidence back,” Zinchenko said.
“We worked really hard throughout this time and accomplished well. We have gotten back on track because we knew we had to.
