Shearer’s comment begins “for whatever reason,” indicating that he is obviously against Sterling’s exclusion from the England team.
Sterling’s performance against his old team, though, has drawn plaudits from Shearer, who said, “that performance was the perfect answer to anyone who doubts him.”
Since Gareth Southgate has been benching Sterling for a while now, it is unclear if he will be called back up to the England team before EURO 2024.

With 14 appearances for Chelsea this season, Sterling has 1,105 football minutes played, five goals, and two assists.
He assisted against Tottenham the previous week, and this weekend he scored a goal against Manchester City, his old team.
Sterling is beginning to act more assertively and try to make an impact on the game by making decisions, like setting up goals and supporting his teammates. As one of the more seasoned players on this Chelsea squad, it is crucial that he keeps setting an example.
