Following his 500th Real Madrid game, Luka Modric took some time to consider his incredible career there.
The midfielder recently made history by becoming just the 15th player in Madrid’s legendary history to play 500 games for Los Blancos. He celebrated the milestone with a strong performance in a historic 2-1 El Clasico victory against fierce rivals Barcelona.
Over his incredible 12-year tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu, Modric has virtually won everything in football during his time with the team. The now 38-year-old started and played a key role in each of Madrid’s five Champions League championships as the team dominated European football in the 2010s.
Modric became the eighth Real Madrid player to win the Ballon d’Or in 2018 as a result of his outstanding performances.
In an interview with AS, Modric talked about his amazing career and thanked the club’s supporters for their ongoing support.
“Reaching this figure is impressive and I want to thank Real Madrid fans for their support during all these matches,” he stated. “I’m going to keep working tirelessly for Madrid.
“To me, Real Madrid is everything. It is a way of life, a part of my family, and my life. Despite the fact that I was born in Croatia, I have lived here for 11 years and feel completely at home. I am appreciative of what I am going through at the greatest football club ever.
500 games is a milestone that few Real Madrid players have attained. Being with them makes me feel proud. The most significant thing, beyond all the accolades and distinctions, has been being acknowledged by my devoted supporters.”
With only eight months left on his Madrid deal, Modric has recently been strongly linked to moves to the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer.
