Max Verstappen is becoming increasingly apparent to Gerhard Berger as the “world’s best racing driver of all time.”
Given that he was the legendary Ayrton Senna’s McLaren teammate in the past, this is a significant call from the F1 veteran.
However, he stated to the newspaper Kronen Zeitung that he had never witnessed a driver dominate like Red Bull’s Max Verstappen did in 2023, winning 19 of 22 grand prix.
The Austrian stated that Max is a racing driver who always gives it his all. “Just like Hamilton does now, or as Senna or Schumacher used to.
But Max is probably already back in the simulator, tinkering with all of his race vehicles.
Is Verstappen, though, the most committed driver in the history of the sport?
Indeed, replied 64-year-old Berger. He merely dedicates his entire being to his sport, Formula 1. He is passionate about that. He is, in my opinion, the greatest racing driver in history.
Berger felt that Verstappen’s flawless driving record, rather than his 21 podiums out of a potential 22, was the most remarkable aspect of his third consecutive drivers’ title this year.
Berger grinned, “That’s exactly what has turned into Helmut Marko’s biggest handicap.” since Max is not in need of him. Helmut just had nothing to condemn because he made no mistakes.
That’s why Sergio Perez’s performance in the sibling vehicle is so strikingly different.
Berger concurs, of course. “Helmutt usually has something to do again if you combine Max and Perez.
Berger clarifies, “That’s just Formula 1 terminology, so he can start the new year with less strain.
Though Red Bull seems to be the obvious frontrunner, Formula 1 is always entertaining for a surprise. He continued, “Anything can always happen.” Either way, I’m eagerly anticipating 2024.
