Lando Norris‘ incredible Formula 1 season has earned him the coveted Lorenzo Bandini Trophy for 2023.
For the first time in his career, McLaren was able to compete at the front of the field on a regular basis, and Norris finished sixth in the Drivers’ Championship with a career-best seven podiums, including six second-place finishes.
The Bandini trophy, named for the former Grand Prix winner who passed away following a serious burn injury sustained in an accident at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, has been awarded to him in recognition of this.
The winner is chosen not by race results but by the driver’s attitude towards the sport and personal qualities.
With World Champions Max Verstappen, Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, and Jacques Villeneuve among the past winners, Norris takes over from Kevin Magnussen’s triumph in 2022.
